Half Life Tips.

Head Shots.
If you shoot the Marines in the head, they die faster!
Kill the Alien-Eaten Scientists.
The crazy Scientist-Aliens with the crustacean heads and spiny arms are dangerous, yet weak and slow. Just one shell from the shotgun should do them in.

Get a Pistol Fast in Half Life Uplink.
Down in the basement near the elevator, kill the guard with your cane then take his pistol. Do not to do this whilst anyone is looking, you might frighten away any poossible allies.

Frag That Fish.
Ichthyosaurs are tough, not only because they're ravenous beings that can rip you to shreds in seconds, but also because you're fairly limited in the weapons you can use while immersed in their habitat. If you don't feel like standing onshore wasting your ammo trying for a lucky potshot, try this: find a corner in the water and hold your "swim up" button. As you bob on the surface, so will the Ichthyosaur. When you see it break the surface, unload the Assault Rifle on the Ichthyosaur. The rifle's secondary grenade launching mode is especially effective at making this disgusting creature go belly-up.

Open Locked Doors.
Some doors in Half-Life can only be opened with the help of a Scientist or Security Guard. If you find yourself trapped behind a locked door, here's what to do: Find the nearest staff member to hit with the use key until that person agrees to hang out with you. Next, go stand near the door that needs to be opened. Make sure to stay within the staff member's view so he or she doesn't lose sight of you. If your new friend doesn't take the hint, make a point of going up to the locked door where you can be seen, then stand back so you aren't in the way. Eventually, the staff member will figure it out and open the door for you.

Half Life Tips.

Xen Healing.
Once you make it to the alien world of Xen, you won't have first aid stations to take care of your inevitable wounds. However, you'll find healing pools and stations that benefit both you and your alien foes. One such pool is filled with blue water--stand in it and your health will slowly regenerate back to 100. (They don't have anything like this at Black Mesa!) You'll also encounter a station that looks like a portal awash in a blue light. Stand in the light and, just like in the pool, your health will slowly be restored to 100.

Mounted Guns Can Help as Well as Hurt
The mounted guns don't care who they shoot. If you're being chased by an enemy, you can run past one of them fast, duck behind some cover, and let the guns peg your pursuer.

Tough Tentacles.
The first time you see one of these huge, three-headed beasts with a spear-like device on the end of each head rend a Scientist limb from limb, it's a sight that's hard to forget. So what's the best way to deal with a Tentacle? You'll remember that when you first saw one in the silo, the Security Guard warned you that the Tentacle could hear you. And do you remember the Hazard Course? Of course you do. In one segment, you learned how to use stealth mode by crouching. Rather than waste a bunch of ammo trying to kill the Tentacle (since it can't be done with anything in your arsenal anyway), just hold still for about 20 seconds. Once it can no longer hear you, this creep will chill and stop flailing about. At this point, simply crouch down and sneak past it. Or if you're too impatient for the wait-and-sneak approach, try distracting it by lobbing a grenade over it and then scampering for cover.

Nihilanth Spoiler.
Once you're in Nihilanth's room, blow up the three yellow triangles on the wall things; they allow him to recuperate. Shoot him a bunch of times until his head opens up. There are a couple of ways to kill him. Once his head is open, bounce up to various ledges and fire your weapons into his brain. To do it in style though, bounce directly into his head and bang on his brain point-blank with your crow bar.

Crouch before you fall off a building etc.
If you are constantly getting hurt jumping down from great heights, next time try doing it while holding the Crouch key. Hunkering down helps brace you for the fall and will prevent some of the damage. It's not going to help if you fall 100 stories, but in some situations it'll save you five or more hit points.

Half Life Tips.

Reload.
Reload as often as you can because you never know if you are going to get into trouble and the extra rounds might just save your neck.

Don't Waste Bullets on Barnacles.
If you're stupid enough to blunder into the tongue of a Barnacle and it's not hanging too high, pull out your Crowbar to give it a good whacking just when it's on the verge of sucking you into its maw. Of course if this particular Barnacle happens to be two stories up, it might be best to blast it fast with your shotgun before your efforts are rewarded with a fatal plunge.

Lambda Core Spoiler.
Once you reach the Lambda Core, the fit is getting pretty close to hitting the shan. Maneuvering inside the Lambda Core is fairly straightforward. However, once you fire up the reactor you'll have to use a series of portals. Red herring warning! Use portal two, then portal four. Next go through portal seven. You'll have to be careful though, as each portal takes you higher up the reactor and a fall from this height will kill you.

Half-Life Parameters.
If you want to use cheats in Half-Life, you will need to enable the -dev or -console parameters. To use parameters in Half-Life, edit the Half-Life icon on your Start menu as follows:
1. Right-click the Start icon on the Windows task bar.
2. Click Open.
3. Find the Half-Life icon and right-click it.
4. Click Properties.
5. Add the desired parameter to the end of the field that says Target or Cmd__Line. For example, to enable developer's mode you would change the line to read: "C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -dev".
-dev Developer's mode. Enables the console and displays debugging information while playing.
-console Enables the console. To access it, press tilde (~) while playing.
-heapsize x Tells Half-Life how much RAM (memory) it can use. For example, if you want it to use 32MB of RAM, then enter the parameter -heapsize 32768. Note: Do not request more memory than your computer has.
-nointro Skips the introduction movies.
-noip Removes the D.U.N. box for playing on a LAN. Note: Remove this command whenever playing on the Internet. If you don't, you won't be able to play online.
-noipx Use this if you receive an IPX error when playing on a LAN.
-numericping Replaces the Half-Life server browser's "green dot" latency information with real numbers. Only available in version 1.0.0.8 or later.
-startwindowed Starts Half-Life in a window instead of a full screen.
-toconsole Immediately loads the console when Half-Life starts.
-wavonly Disables Direct Sound and plays SFX in WAV files.

Shoot Through Walls.
You'll get the Gauss Gun during the Questionable Ethics "chapter." Next to the Gluon Gun, the Gauss Gun is the best way to dispatch Alien Grunts. This weapon has one of the sweetest attributes around; it can shoot through walls. So if you know exactly where your enemies are, you can waste 'em before you encounter them face-to-face. The thicker the wall is, the longer you'll need to hold down the secondary fire button before releasing the blast. However, the Gauss Gun's ammo is limited, so use it sparingly.
